The Nintendo DS (Japanese: ニンテンドーDS) is a handheld video game console produced by Nintendo that features two screens including a top screen and Touch Screen.

It is part of the seventh generation of video game consoles.

It became a highly successful system after the success of Nintendo's previous handheld systems from the Game Boy Advance and Game Boy families.

The Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite feature backwards compatibility with many Game Boy Advance games (but not Game Boy/Game Boy Color games) thanks to a slot at the bottom of the console to insert those games, and a few games are capable of interacting with the game in the slot.

The Nintendo DS was succeeded by the Nintendo 3DS and its multiple variations.
