Pochacco is a Sanrio character introduced in 1989 based on a white puppy with no visible mouth. His name is possibly taken from the Japanese onomatopoeia "pocha pocha" that can mean "plump"/"chubby" or to splash around in water.

He is a member of the Hapidanbui.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Pochacco's birthday is February 29th (a leap year). He is curious and a little nosy and "scatterbrained"[1] but he has lots of friends, in particular Choppi the mouse. His height is the size of four large cups of his favourite banana ice cream. His favourite flower is Chinese milk vetch.[2]

He was born on Nightingale Lane. Pocchaco is a vegetarian. He loves walking and likes eating carrots, but banana ice cream is his all-time favourite food. He is interested in sports. He is great at basketball and is the best three-on-three basketball player in the playground. He is also a good soccer goalie.[3]

He really likes Summer and Spring, which he associates with banana ice cream and Chinese milk vetch respectively.

Pochacco drawing song[edit | edit source]

A song to sing while drawing Pochacco was released on the Japanese official Sanrio website in English from 1998 or earlier. The URL for the page is no longer functionable.[5]

  1. First, there was a pond called Doki Doki,
  2. Three frogs jumped in, one a bit lower,
  3. Water sprayed up, splash splash splash!
  4. In the sky overhead, a lark fluttered here or there --doesn't matter where! Flying high, so very high.
  5. The charming feature of this creature is his little round tummy. Make sure it's no bigger than his head!
  6. Tree-lined Pochacco lane.
  7. Let's toddle! C'mon, let's go for a walk! Check out the little legs.
  8. That's right, I'm Pochacco!
