Game Boy Color
The Game Boy Color (Japanese: ゲームボーイカラー) is a handheld video game console produced by Nintendo and the successor to the Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Light, and Play It Loud! models. Games can be played by inserting cartridges into the system.
It is part of the fifth generation of video game consoles. It was released on October 21, 1998 in Japan, November 18, 1998 in North America, November 23, 1998 in Europe and on November 27, 1998 in Australia.
Unlike older Game Boy models, it features support for colourised video games including many games that will only work on a Game Boy Color or later model such as Bad Badtz-Maru: Robo Battle.[1]
The system was highly successful, in particular it was sought after after the success of Pokémon franchise which featured games for this system debuting with Pokémon Red and Green Versions in Japan (localized overseas as Pokémon Red and Blue).
Notes[edit | edit source]
- ↑ Much less commonly a few games such as Chee-Chai Alien will not work on a system later than the Game Boy Color.
