The Nintendo DS (Japanese: ニンテンドーDS) is a handheld video game console produced by Nintendo that features two screens including a top screen and Touch Screen.
It is part of the seventh generation of video game consoles.
The Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite feature backwards compatibility with many Game Boy Advance games (but not Game Boy/Game Boy Color games) thanks to a slot at the bottom of the console to insert those games, and a few games are capable of interacting with the game in the slot.
The Nintendo DS was succeeded by the Nintendo 3DS and its multiple variations.
There have been various games related to Sanrio for this system.
- Nintendo DS Lite: A redesigned version of the Nintendo DS that also features brighter screens than the original.
- Nintendo DSi: A newer version of the Nintendo DS featuring improved Internet functionality, a digital camera and access to the Nintendo DSi Shop. It removed the support for Game Boy Advance games.
- Nintendo DSi XL: A larger version of the Nintendo DS, known as the Nintendo DS LL in Japan, additionally with improved battery life.
